**NEW** NRC/DOT Radioactive Waste Packaging CBT

NRC/DOT Radioactive Waste Packaging, Transportation and Disposal Computer-Based Training (CBT)

EnergySolutions Training has revised the NRC/DOT Radioactive Waste Packaging, Transportation and Disposal computer based training (CBT) to be compliant with the most current regulations.  This CBT can provide a cost-effective alternative to a traditional classroom setting.  This course is designed for personnel needing recertification or can be used as a challenging introduction for inexperienced personnel.  It is also recognized as a prerequisite for more advanced training classes like Mixed Waste or IATA.  The course is delivered in nine modules each with a test to comply with the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Hazardous Material Employee Training in 49 CFR 172, Subpart H.

Topics Included in this Training:
  • Introduction to the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and  use of a scientific calculator
  • How to calculate Limited Quantities, Type A and Type B Quantities, Low Specific Activity (LSA) and Surfaced Contaminated Objects (SCO)
  • How to select and qualify packaging for Excepted, Type A, Type B and LSA/SCO radioactive materials
  • Communications for Excepted, Type A, Type B and LSA/SCO packages
  • Waste classification and manifesting for licensed disposal sites (NRC IE 79/19 Training)
Benefits of Computer Based Training:
  • Provides a cost-effective training alternative
  • Allows participants to complete the training at a time most convenient for the employee
  • Allows participants to work at their own pace
  • Provides convenient access to training courses without travel
  • Allows participants to complete quality training in the employee’s own environment
How Does it Work?

To arrange payment and receive an access code, contact:

  • Jennifer Keszler (509) 420-5462 or jennifer.keszler@atkinsglobal.com or
  • Lauren Brasington (803) 873-9394 or lauren.brasington@atkinsglobal.com.

Upon successful completion of the interactive training course and verification of payment, you will receive a certificate of completion.  Your employer is responsible to determine if this satisfies the training requirements based on your job function.

What you will need:
  • Access to a computer and the internet
  • Ability to print handouts
  • Current 49 CFR Parts 100 - 178
Frequently Asked Questions:
  • How much does the Radioactive Waste Packaging, Transportation and Disposal CBT cost?

            Through December, 31, 2015:  $1,095.00

            Beginning January 1, 2016:  $1,295.00

  • How long will it take to complete all nine modules?

For new shippers, we recommend at least 40 hours for initial training and for experienced shippers, we recommend at least 20 hours as a refresher.

  • Will I need a 49 CFR to complete this?

Yes, either electronically (i.e., e-CFR from the Government Publishing Office’s website) or paper copy you can order from this link: http://www.labelmaster.com/shop/books/cfr/cfr-title-49-dot-hazmat/dot-49-cfr-parts-100-177-and-178-199-rev-oct-2014-dot0119

  • If I have a technical question, are instructors available to assist?

Yes, on a limited basis.  See Contact for Technical Questions below.  Please be patient as our instructors may be teaching when you call.

  • Will instructor led classroom training still be available at hotels or at my facility?

Yes, we will continue to offer our instructor led hotel classes and on-site training to our customers.

  • Do you recommend this computer based training for a new employee with little or no experience with radioactive materials?

No, however, if an individual feels confident with their math skills and is able to grasp basic terminology and concepts found in the regulations, then this is still a viable alternative to attending an instructor led course for their initial training.
